Your Jewelry Appraisal Needs

Before choosing an appraiser, you must determine the purpose of the appraisal. As jewelry values can vary depending on the type of report you need, this is a very important step.

If you need to insure a piece of jewelry, you will find that most insurance companies require professional appraisal by a certified gemologist. Most will not accept appraisals given to you by the retailer you purchased from. It is a good idea to have your precious jewels appraised for Replacement Value every two years so that your policy stays up to date.

If you lost a family member and they left behind jewelry items that need to be appraised this is an Estate appraisal. Each item will be examined and assigned its Fair Market Value, and there will be an aggregate total value for the purpose of an Equitable Distribution between beneficiaries.

In the case of a Divorce appraisal, jewelry items are appraised for Fair Market Value. The certified appraisal is an extremely helpful tool in settling litigation, and dividing items accordingly.

The Fair Market Value of jewelry pieces will also be utilized for reports used for Charitable Donation and general Buying/Selling decision making.

Once you have decided which appraisal purpose fits your needs, it is time to carefully choose your gemologist appraiser.
